Czech Republic off the beaten path.
Gardens, old towns, castle landscapes, and a few Czech places to keep on the list for the next journey.

The story
This illustrated layout example follows the four places in our original Czech Republic post. These are planning notes, not a new trip report. The photographs are from our family album and illustrate the layout; they do not depict the individual landmarks.
Gardens and Castle at Kroměříž
A stop in Moravia for a garden-and-architecture itinerary. The castle and its formal gardens offer a change of pace from forest paths and campsite mornings.
Leave time to enjoy the grounds rather than treating the castle as a quick photograph. Before travelling, check which gardens and interiors will be open on the day.

Historic Centre of Český Krumlov
Follow the curve of the Vltava into a historic town gathered around its castle. A slower visit leaves room for side streets and river views, rather than another place to tick off a list.
For a family journey, leave some of the day unplanned. A short walk, a break by the river, and a little flexibility can matter more than fitting in every sight.

Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape
Think of this as a landscape to explore, not just one castle to visit. Gardens, parkland, and the wider countryside connect the architecture of Lednice and Valtice.
Choose a manageable part of the landscape for the time and energy available. Save the rest for another journey instead of rushing between every landmark.
Leave room between the places on the map.
Kutná Hora and its historic centre
This former silver-mining town adds another kind of history to the route. The Church of St Barbara and the cathedral at Sedlec are two places to research before setting off.
Use the town as an invitation to look beyond a single attraction. Check visitor arrangements and allow time for the streets between the better-known buildings.

Before setting off
- Check current opening times and visitor arrangements.
- Plan parking and a comfortable walking distance for the whole family.
- Keep room for food, rest, weather changes, and unplanned stops.
These short notes are a starting point. Check official destination information before relying on a route, opening time, or access arrangement.
